pitot, pitot-static, venturi meter
Example
A Pitot-static tube is used to measure the velocity of helium in a pipe. The temperature and pressure are 5 degree celcius and 600kPaG. The pitot-static tube indicates a pressure difference of 100Pa. Determine the helium Velocity.
PV= nRuT
P=nRuT/V
P=pRuT/MrHe
(600+101)x10^3=p(8.314472)(273.15+5)/0.004
p=(701x10^3)/(578167)
p=1.212 kg/L
V=Sqrt(2(P2-P1)/p
V=Sqrt(2(100)/1.212)
V=12.8L/s
Try this yourself
Air is flowing in a duct. The pressure-difference gage attached to the pitot-static tube indicates a difference of 200 Pa. What is the air velocity? (ρair = 1.20 kg/m3 )
